Arun Pratap Singh Dev Government College,Shankargarh was established by the Government of Chhatisgarh on July the 11th2012 and affiliated to the Saint Guru University, Sarguja. The college is situated at Manpur of Shankargarh  Tahsil of Balrampur district of Sarguja divion. The campus of the college is spread around an area of 10 acres of land. This is located at an equal distance of 60Kilometers both from Balrampur and Ambikapur i.e. the district and the division headquarters.

Shankargarh Tehsil is largely dominated by the tribal population and is rich in scenic and natural beauty. Mountainous hills, plateaus, green paddy fields and rural atmosphere present a mosaic view and serene view of the landscape. The area of Sarguja has rightly been mentioned in the state anthem of Chhatisgarh as the peacock crown. Whereas, its locale in such a natural, peaceful, pollution free and serene atmosphere issuit able for teaching and quality education, the backwardness of the reason presents many handicaps in imparting proper education. Thus, this proves its path breaking role as the only institution of higher learning. This college is not only doing a commendable work in imparting education and inculcating knowledge among students, but also in developing their overall personality as true citizens of the country. The logo, constituting of a tree in the background of the rising Sun in an open book, rightly represent productivity, multifarious development and knowledge system of the society. All round development through education is the motto of this college. The college is dedicated to the overall development of the Tehsil by training and exploring resources in the fields of tourism, agriculture, handicrafts, biodiversity, minerals and games & sports.

Arun Pratap Singh Deo Government College, Shankargarh provides undergraduate co-education in the streams of Science, Arts and Commerce. 60 seats has been allocated by the Government in each stream every year. Mostly the student community belong to the local populace. The college keeps on organizing extra-curricular activities apart from regular activities of educating. There is a Team of 50 NSS volunteers. Pas out students are mostly engaged in higher education, self-employment, trade and government jobs. The data of employment are worth satisfying. Despite being less than a decade old, the college is accelerating in infrastructure development, providing environment of quality of education and overall development of personality of students.

The processes of getting permanent affiliation from the University and for 2f and for 12B are undergoing. This college also hosts the teaching centre of Pt. Sunderlal Sharma Open University,Bilaspur.
